So things have been pretty busy at Every Feather for the last few months – and that’s in part why I haven’t managed to update the blog. We closed the doors for a little while – did some moving around and re-organising and have opened our doors slowly again. We are at the Leigh OrnithologicalContinue reading “UPDATE”

The Big Decision
So after our Facebook post yesterday about Potato we had a couple of people questionning our decision not to have him put to sleep. I thought I’d write a blog on this because it isn’t an easy decision to make and I can’t seem to explain it in just a few short sentences. Each rescueContinue reading “The Big Decision”
The Year of the Corvid
So every year around April I start to talk about how much I love baby magpie time. I think everyone in rescue knows how much I love raising these little birds. They are so intelligent and are a quick study so you have to keep them wild and best with more than just one soContinue reading “The Year of the Corvid”
Cockerels
The plight of cockerels has been something we have highlighted before on our Facebook. Around this time of year schools /nurseries run hatching projects and the result of these tend to be a large number of cockerels that nobody is willing to home. Places like Lucky Hens in Wigan have devoted their space to homingContinue reading “Cockerels”
What We Don’t Talk About
A few days ago a friend of mine told me that one of her close friends had tragically taken her own life. It’s something I hear far too much. A few years ago now my sister attempted to take her own life due to an ongoing threat to the safe place she had found forContinue reading “What We Don’t Talk About”
Changes & Growth
Spring has always been my favourite time of year – specifically Easter. The sun starts to put in an appearance, lighter nights and leaves beginning to uncurl. The clocks went forward yesterday and that means coming home from work and having time to spend outside with Velvet and the garden dwellers before it starts toContinue reading “Changes & Growth”
Giving Up
It’s been a tough morning. A very poorly squab (baby pigeon) arrived at weekend. I named her Spirit because she was freezing cold, had terrible Canker and looked like she wouldn’t make the night. She did make the night, and the next one. Yesterday, despite treatment, I noticed that the Canker was getting worse. IContinue reading “Giving Up”
Local Authorities & Wildlife
Firstly, I know I use this photo alot but it’s my favourite and Spartacus deserves the recognition. I have been reading a lot of posts on wildlife rescue pages about issues with Local Authorities. One rescue that I greatly admire has even decided to relocate. This is simply unacceptable and grossly unfair. Local Authorities shouldContinue reading “Local Authorities & Wildlife”
Suggestions Please
So I mentioned a while back that I am writing a book about our rescue – the trials etc and also about how nature helps people grow and cope. Anyway, I wanted to pop the start here. it’s not been edited and is a very rough draft but I just need some suggestions: how doesContinue reading “Suggestions Please”
Spring Fever
As the lighter nights start to settle in I prepare myself for the plants coming back to life. I promise myself that this year I’ll actually grow things in my vegetable garden that don’t immediately get eaten by my chickens. I start to look forward to spending more time outside without getting covered in mud.Continue reading “Spring Fever”
